About Josh Teerling

What's my Role

I’m participating in a course called “School Of Navigation and Seamanship”. This school is focused on training up people to work on board the vessels of YWAM, enabling them to continue the work that they’re doing.
My 3 months of training will involve basic sailing theory and deck work, to more intensive training including chart work, tidal theory, meteorology, and passage planning.

Upon completing the training, I will be looking to serve on one of the YWAM vessels wherever the work is most needed.

My journey here

I started my YWAM Journey in the fall of 2012. I did my DTS (Discipleship Training School) at the Destination Paradise base, located on Ambergris Caye, Belize. During this course I spent a lot of time focusing on my own personal growth with God, with topics ranging from forgiveness, the Holy Spirit, to our understanding of God as a Father. After 3 months of personal growth, we then spend 2 months on outreach in Nicaragua and Panama, applying all that we had learned to the communities we visited.

My next trip was a DBS (Discipleship Bible School) on Board the Sailing Yacht Next Wave, in the spring of 2014. This school was one completely focused on the Bible; Reading it, studying it, and applying it. Over a 6 month span, we read and studied the entirety of the Bible, all while sailing though out the Mediterranean, visiting ancient Biblical sites as we went.

God has now called me back to YWAM, though this time, with a purpose to give a portion of my life to serve. How long I am to serve is still unclear. I believe it will become more clear as time passes. Upon completing my next training course, more specific options for serving will be discussed, enabling me to move forward where God would call me.
